I Do Believe I Deserve a Cookie

From the early part of January, 2014:

Believe it or not,

there are moments when you are flying

that the fact that you are in a plane tens of thousands of feet above land with absolutely no control

isn’t the only thing you are thinking of.

There are moments that make it

A L L

worth it.  Here are some of those moments:

Lift off happened early in the morning, but not quite early enough to catch the sunrise like I had hoped!  Still one of my favorite pictures!

The cloud cover tried really hard to hide the mountains from me…. but I was determined!!

At this point in the flight the turbulence was sooooo bad, I kept revolving between two thoughts, the first:

“OMG.  If this plane goes down – it will be

ALL          MY          FAULT.

I’m the one who just HAD to see the effin’ mountains!”

and

“Next time – my carry on is going to consist of a parachute.”

Okay, so when I walk into a used bookstore, awe – who am I kidding – when I see a used bookstore I get really excited. I bet that’s what happens to a geologist when they fly and look down to see tributaries and… stuff.

To me – it provided a beautiful distraction from the whole “no control” thing!

Needless to say I was very happy to be home!

I was so happy in fact that I decided I needed to bake:

Then the storms hit – first snow:

Then the effin’ cold.

I am pretty certain at one point I felt the road shiver.

It all kind of made me want to move.

But then again it would be sooooo costly to move all those I love to Hawaii.

Until next time,

Evening of day 3, Seattle

20131229-084432.jpg

After venturing downtown for most of the day, window shopping and looking for useful souvenirs (is THAT the ultimate oxymoron?!)  we tripped into this Chocolate and Wine on Pine store.  It. Was. Awesome.  No, no.  It. Was. FANTABULOUS!!   The staff there was extremely friendly and well informed about everything they had in store.  They were prompt to offer extra packaging when they asked enough questions to determine I was from out of State.  They were friendly and sincerely loved their job… ALL of them.  Their recommendations were spot on.  I can not say enough!

I am going to have to order and ship this home once I run out!

So exhausted and blissfully happy with our beverage selection we opted to make dinner at home.  A heavenly cheese, bread and meat plate with a side of my new absolute favorite Moscato!!!

If you ever happen into Seattle, don’t waste your money on a t-shirt, stop in at The Chocolate Box and they will help you choose a gift that will be remembered fondly!!

Seattle, WA. Day One

20131227-102318.jpg

Flight landed in Seattle around 7:30pm local time, so there wasn’t a ton of time remaining in Day one of my trip.  Once we got situated, it was probably closer to 10:30pm.  With feet dragging on the pavement the entire 6 blocks we somehow found ourselves seated at a table at The Palace Kitchen.  You can see the home page for the chef here:

All I remember is pure deliciousness!!

Then somehow, we fell into bed at the hotel, The Washington Athletic Club (WAC for short), and slept a beautiful and fulfilling sleep!!

Check you on Day Two!!
